Mr. Richard B. Bates, Managing Director of North Inlet Partners, previously served as Chief Development Officer of Duke Energy Corporation until March 2014. He joined Duke in June 2000 as managing director of mergers and acquisitions to establish Duke Energy's corporate development function, which included a strong focus on Duke Energy’s international operations in Latin America.  He served as Senior Vice President of Sonat, Inc. since May 1, 1995. Mr. Bates served as President of Sonat Energy Services from 1994 to 1999 and as a senior officer of Sonat Exploration Company from 1985 – 1994, last serving as Executive Vice President of Sonat Exploration. Prior to his employment with Sonat, Mr. Bates served as General Counsel of ITT Eason Oil Company, and Vice President and General Counsel for an independent oil and gas producer and drilling contractor.  Mr. Bates graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and history from the University of Oklahoma. He also holds a juris doctor degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.
